Who are we?
Umicore Marketing Services UK Ltd are the UK agents for Friatec’s range of high-purity oxide ceramics, mainly alumina and zirconia, better known under the FRIALIT® and DEGUSSIT® trade names. Our addresses are on the Contact Us page, or you can use the e-mail link on this page.
If you’re not in the UK, don’t worry – we can still help to make sure that you get the information you need. Please contact us directly, or see some of the other Agents’ addresses on the Contact Us page.
Degussa AG (founded in 1873) was originally a precious metals company (the name is a contraction of the Deutsche Gold- und Silber-Scheideanstalt – the German Gold and Silver Refinery). The chemicals expertise required for precious metals extraction led to their involvement in the speciality chemicals market – a sector which grew at a phenomenal rate, rapidly overtaking the precious metals activities in importance. One of the products that they developed, was a high-purity alumina which was used to produce mainly tubes and rods sold under the DEGUSSIT name. In 1977, following a strategic review, the product range and DEGUSSIT name were sold to Friatec in Mannheim. Friatec already produced a complementary range of products under their FRIALIT tradename, and further information on Friatec AG can be found here. Distribution of the products continued through the worldwide links with Degussa.
In July 2003, the Precious Metals businesses of the former-Degussa became part of Umicore. Umicore is a global materials technology group. It focuses on application areas where its expertise in materials science, chemistry and metallurgy makes a real difference. Its activities are centred on four business areas: Catalysis, Energy Materials, Performance Materials and Recycling.
